# Understanding Credit Line decreases

> If your PEX Credit Expense limit has decreased, learn what that means, why it can happen and what you can do next

If your PEX Credit Expense limit has decreased, this article explains what that means, why it can happen and what you can do next.

## What a Credit Line decrease is

Your Credit Line is the spending limit available on your PEX Credit Expense account. A Credit Line decrease, sometimes called a CLD, is when we lower that limit.

We review Credit Lines on an ongoing basis, and we may raise or lower your Credit Line based on your current financial profile. If we decrease your Credit Line, you'll receive a formal notice by email explaining the decision.

## The notice you'll receive

When we decrease your Credit Line, we send a formal Adverse Action Notice by email, with a PDF copy attached. Your notice includes:

* **Your new and previous limit** — what your Credit Line was decreased to, and what it was before
* **The principal reason(s) for the decision** — the specific reason(s) your limit was lowered
* **Your current account status** — your balance and available credit at the time of the notice
* **How to reach us** — contact details for questions about the decision

Start with your notice — it lists the exact reason(s) for your specific decrease.

## Why a Credit Line decrease can happen

A decrease is a normal part of how we manage credit responsibly. It's not a penalty, and in most cases it reflects a change in your linked account or financial profile. Your notice lists the specific reason(s); the most common ones are:

* **Your linked account balance is lower relative to your Credit Line.** Your Credit Line is informed by the balances in your Linked External Account. If those balances decline, we may reduce your limit to a level that better reflects your current account activity.
* **A change in your linked account activity.** We monitor how your linked account is used. A meaningful shift in deposits, balances or overall activity can affect the limit we can support.
* **A negative credit event.** During periodic credit reviews, a change in your business's financial profile or a new risk factor can lead to a lower limit.
* **A missed or failed payment.** If an automatic debit fails, a payment is returned or your account goes into default, we may reduce your Credit Line.
* **A broken connection to your linked account.** We need an active connection to your Linked External Account to verify your available cash balances. If your bank credentials change or the connection drops and we can't verify your balance, we may lower or suspend your Credit Line until it's restored.

## What to do if your Credit Line is decreased

* **Read the notice we send.** It lists the principal reason(s) for the change, which is the best starting point.
* **Reconnect your linked account.** If the decrease was related to a broken connection, update your bank credentials in the Dashboard so we can verify your balance again. This supports a new review of your account — it doesn't automatically restore your previous limit.
* **Send any documentation we requested.** During a credit review we may ask for supporting documents, like recent bank statements. These help us complete our review, but they're part of an ongoing evaluation, not an appeal of the decision already made.
* **Contact us with questions.** Email us at [adminsupport@pexcard.com](mailto:adminsupport@pexcard.com), or use the contact details in your notice.

## Requesting a Credit Line increase

A lower limit isn't permanent. As your financial profile changes, your Credit Line can move up too. We review Credit Lines periodically and may increase your limit based on your linked account balances, activity and overall risk profile.

When your financials strengthen — for example, higher balances in your linked account or steady, growing activity — you can ask us to review your limit. This starts a new review; it isn't a way to challenge or reverse a prior decrease.

To [request an increase](/administrator-guide/how-to-request-credit-line-increase-for-pex-business-account):

* Apply for a Credit Line increase through your PEX Dashboard
* Have recent supporting documentation ready, such as bank statements, for the review
* We'll review your request and let you know the outcome

## Your rights under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act

Every Adverse Action Notice includes a required federal notice about your rights. In short, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibits creditors from discriminating against credit applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status or age; because your income comes from a public assistance program; or because you have exercised a right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act. The federal agency that administers compliance for us is the Federal Trade Commission. The full notice, including the FTC's address, appears on your Adverse Action Notice.
