# Why was my ACH transfer canceled?

> Reasons a standard ACH or same day ACH transfer to your PEX Account is canceled before it processes, and what to do next

A pending ACH transfer only leaves your Pending Transfers list two ways: it processes, or it gets canceled before it processes. A canceled transfer never moves money — no funds leave your bank account and nothing is added to your PEX Account balance.

PEX can only cancel a transfer while it is still in "Requested" status. Once a transfer moves to "Pending" it has been sent for processing and it can no longer be canceled.

## Reasons that apply to both standard ACH and same day ACH

**An administrator canceled it**

The administrator who created the transfer can cancel it while it is still in "Requested" status. See [How to Cancel a PEX ACH Transfer](/administrator-guide/how-to-cancel-a-pex-ach-transfer).

**Your bank account is no longer verified or active**

If the linked bank account was unlinked, removed or is no longer active, PEX can't submit the transfer. Relink the account and request the transfer again. See [Relinking unlinked bank accounts on Prepaid Expense](/administrator-guide/relinking-unlinked-bank-accounts-on-prepaid-expense).

**A low balance transfer replaced it**

When low balance transfers are turned on and your balance drops further before the pending transfer processes, PEX cancels the smaller pending request and creates one larger transfer that covers both amounts. Your account still gets funded — the total is combined into a single transfer. See [Low Balance Transfers](/administrator-guide/low-balance-transfers).

**The transfer came from an account we can't accept**

Transfers from vendors or any other third parties, including related businesses, are not accepted. Fund your PEX Account from a business bank account in your own name.

## Reasons specific to same day ACH

Same day ACH transfers are processed Monday through Friday at 12:15 PM ET. Before that processing run, PEX checks the available balance in your linked bank account and compares your pending same day requests against the same day ACH limits set for your account. That check is why most same day cancellations happen.

**The request went over your same day ACH daily limit**

Your same day ACH limit is based on the available balance in your linked bank account and on the daily limits set for your account. PEX totals every same day request for that bank account for the day. Requests are kept in the order they were created, so the oldest request is processed and any later request that pushes the day's total over the limit is canceled.

**We couldn't verify your bank balance**

If your bank connection has expired and needs to be relinked, PEX can't read your available balance and cancels the pending same day requests for that account. Relink the account through Instant Account Verification, then request the transfer again. See [Instant Account Verification](/administrator-guide/instant-account-verification).

<Note>
  **Note:**

PEX emails the administrator who requested the transfer when a same day ACH request is canceled by the balance check, so watch for that email if a request disappears from Pending Transfers.

## What to do next

* **Send it as a standard ACH transfer instead.** Standard ACH transfers are processed Sunday through Thursday on or before 9:00 PM ET and aren't subject to same day ACH limits. Funds are available within four business days.
* **Split the amount or wait for the next business day.** Same day limits are applied per day, so a smaller request today or the full request tomorrow may go through.
* **Relink your bank account.** Linking through Instant Account Verification restores the balance check and gives you higher same day ACH limits.
* **Check with your bank.** If the transfer already processed and the money came back, your bank returned it rather than PEX canceling it. Your bank can tell you why — a returned transfer is most often caused by insufficient funds, a closed account or a block on debits.

  **Note:**

No ACH transfers are processed on bank holidays. See [Where Can I Find a List of Federal Holidays?](/administrator-guide/where-can-i-find-a-list-of-federal-holidays)
