Card Transactions
What is a Pending Transaction?
Understand how authorization holds create pending transactions on PEX cards, when they expire, and why blocking a card cannot stop them.
A pending transaction refers to a purchase made with your Card. When you use your Card to make a purchase, the merchant asks us to authorize the transaction. When we approve a request to authorize a Card transaction, in most cases we place an authorization hold on your account. The authorization hold is displayed as a pending transaction in the transaction list and reduces the available balance of the Card by the requested amount.
The authorization hold generally expires when the transaction posts to your account or five (5) business days after the request, whichever occurs first. There are a few exceptions to this rule, namely: hotels, car and limousine rentals and taxi service may show an authorization hold for up to sixty (60) days.
