If a Same Day ACH transfer disappeared from your PEX account, it was deleted for one of two reasons: your external bank account is no longer linked, or the transfer did not meet the balance minimums for Same Day ACH. Work through the checks below in order.

Step 1: check that your bank account is still linked

Same Day ACH transfers require an external bank account that is linked through Instant Account Verification via Open Banking Providers. If the link drops, we can’t verify your bank balance and any pending Same Day ACH transfer is deleted.
2
Click Business settings in the sidebar menu
3
Click the External accounts tab at the top of the page
4
Find your bank account and check the Online validation column
  • Linked means the connection is healthy and you can move on to step 2
  • Unlinked means you need to revalidate the account before you can use Same Day ACH again

How to revalidate an unlinked account

Click the pencil icon next to the unlinked account, then click Relink External Account and follow the Instant Account Verification via Open Banking Providers dialogue through to your bank’s login portal. Once the connection is restored, the Online validation column changes from Unlinked to Linked. For the full steps, including what to do if relinking returns an error, see Relinking unlinked bank accounts on Prepaid Expense.
Note:You can still make standard ACH transfers from an unlinked bank account. Only Same Day ACH requires a linked account.

Step 2: check the balance minimums

If your bank account is linked and your transfer was still deleted, the amount was too large relative to the balance in your bank account. Same Day ACH is subject to balance minimums, so a Same Day ACH transfer can’t be more than a set percentage of the balance in the linked bank account. We check that balance twice:
  • When you place the Same Day ACH transfer
  • Again right before the transfer is processed
That second check is why a transfer can be accepted and then deleted later. If money left your bank account between the two checks, the transfer no longer meets the threshold. The percentage can vary, but a good rule of thumb is to keep a Same Day ACH transfer at no more than 30% of your bank balance.

What to do instead

There are no balance minimum thresholds for standard ACH. If your Same Day ACH transfers are deleted often because the linked bank account doesn’t hold a consistent balance — a sweep account, for example — use standard ACH instead. Select Standard ACH when you set up the transfer — see How to fund from Admin Dashboard.
If you need funds the same day, ask your bank to send a wire transfer. See How to fund by wire transfer.
Note:Your bank may charge a fee for wire or bank transfers. Fees vary by bank, so check with yours before you send.

When will my funds arrive?

Expected arrival dates for each transfer type are shown on your dashboard while you set up the transfer, so you can compare Same Day ACH and standard ACH before you submit. See Same-Day ACH Transfers for how to place a transfer.
